Guinea pig breeds include the common short-hair guinea pig.
The not as common breed is the long-haired guinea pig. An Alpaka is a long-hair breed with two rosettes (one on each back hip).
Dutch is a two tone breed the darker colour...(which could be a black or brown) will always be displayed as the mask and hind colouring. The blaze and middle body
colouring will always be white. Cornet is another long-hair breed and is like the result of breeding a sheltie and a crested. Cornets have fur parts straight down the centre of the back.
The Abyssinian is a short-haired rosette guinea pig as it has whorls placed evenly along its body (two on it's face, two on its shoulders, two on its side and two on its hips). The long-haired bread of guinea pig needs to be brushed regularly as it's fur would get in its eyes. The Selfs is
a short-haired that has the colour all over such as Beige, Black, Chocolate, Cream, Lilac, Red and White. The Agouti is a short-haired guinea pig with fur tipped with black giving it a 'salt and pepper' effect the colours include Cinnamon, Gold, Lemon, Salmon and Silver.
The English Rex has short curly hair. The Himilayan is not necessarily a breed, but rather a variety. The markings are on their nose, feet and ears, they are all called points.
Because the Himilayan is a variety it can show up in breeds such as Cornets, American Shorthair, Crested, Peruvian and
others. The Himilayan is the result of crossbreeding a Chocolate Self American Shorthair Male with a Himilayan American Shorthair female.
Tortoiseshells are short-haired guinea pigs and looks like patchwork, the colours include black and red.
Satin is much like the Himalayan as it is not a breed but a variety. The fur literally feels like satin to touch. The Peruvian is a long haired breed with 3 rosettes on the body that are found on the hip and on the head. The result of a Rex and a Cornet is a Marino breed that has long curly hair with a rosette on the head.
